{"id":748,"date":"2020-05-06T19:23:17","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T19:23:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.barronspropertymanagers.com\/blog\/?p=748"},"modified":"2020-05-06T19:23:17","modified_gmt":"2020-05-06T19:23:17","slug":"avoiding-scammers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.barronspropertymanagers.com\/blog\/2020\/05\/06\/avoiding-scammers\/","title":{"rendered":"Avoiding Scammers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Lately, with everyone\nbeing told to stay home and \u201csocial distance\u201d we have noticed a very sharp\nincrease in scam listings being posted all over the internet, especially\nCraigslist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, we have\neven had someone pay lots of money and many give personal information out,\nunder the impression that the \u201cowner\u201d is leaving the management company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barrons Property Managers\nhas taken the initiative to regularly check for any scam \u201clistings\u201d, posting\nnotices on our properties, and flagging any numbers \/ names that are reported to\nus as being a scam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you need to make sure\nyou are further protected, so here are some tips and things to keep in mind<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Drive by the\nproperty and check for a professional sign in the yard. Management companies\nwill not keep signs in the yard for a property that they no longer manage.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If it seems too\ngood to be true, it probably is. A house that is listed for $700 a month on\ncraigslist but seems it should be higher, is a good sign you are seeing a fake\nlisting. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If they say \u201cI\u2019ll\nmeet you at the property for a viewing\u201d and then never show up and say there\u2019s\na box there, you are being baited into getting the key for them.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If there is a lock\nbox on the property, but they say to leave the key in the mail box, or\nsomewhere else, they want you to do the dirty work for them so they can scam\nother people too.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If they say \u201cjust\ncash app me the money\u201d or something that sounds weird for a landlord to request\nmoney through, please do not send them anything.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you suspect you are\nbeing scammed, do your research and see if you can find any listing on Zillow,\nrent.com, Trulia, or any other official website that may list a different\ncontact. Scammer do not pay for anything, they only take money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you find that you have\nbeen scammed, given information like a social security number or credit card\nnumber, file a police report with the local authorities and give them any and\nall information you have on the scammer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lately, with everyone being told to stay home and \u201csocial distance\u201d we have noticed a very sharp increase in scam listings being posted all over the internet, especially Craigslist.
